Have you ever asked AI for help, received a useful answer and thought: “Now I still have to open the websites, copy the information and do all of this”? Some assistants can take part in the execution too: researching pages, comparing options, organizing documents and filling fields when the necessary tools and permissions are available.
Follow three fictional situations to learn how to request work and check it. These are examples of possible uses, not demonstrations we performed or promises that every assistant works on every website.
From an answer to a completed task
A conversation can suggest how to organize a folder. An assistant with authorized file access may create a new folder, sort copies and deliver a list of what it found. Browsing requires a browser, “the program that opens websites”, or a connection to the relevant service.
You may see agent, “an AI assistant that uses tools to complete steps in a task”. The practical difference is that it can act in an environment it has been allowed to access. Clear boundaries become more important.
Story 1: the search that became ten open tabs
AI may find an old page, misunderstand a condition or omit an important option. A clear table helps you compare, while checking the chosen option remains part of the task.
Story 2: filling a registration while staying in control
Some sites restrict automation or require a CAPTCHA, “a check intended to distinguish people from programs”. Respect these steps and take over when needed. Assistants cannot guarantee access to every site or bypass restrictions.
Story 3: the folder nobody wanted to organize
Which assistant is suited to these tasks?
The names can be confusing. Claude, “Anthropic’s assistant”, combines conversation and work capabilities. Claude Cowork, “the name of its task experience with files and tools”, remains in documentation, which announces its integration with chat. The official page describes file work and browsing; availability depends on account and configuration. See the integration announcement.
Claude Code, “Anthropic’s tool focused primarily on building and maintaining software”, has a different emphasis. For documents and everyday tasks, begin with Claude’s work experience rather than its programming tool. Read the Claude Code documentation.
ChatGPT Work, “ChatGPT’s mode for multi-step tasks and deliverables such as documents and spreadsheets”, can use available account tools. OpenAI also documents a cloud browser, “a browser running on the service’s servers”. Access depends on plan, permissions and enabled features. Check Work and Codex and ChatGPT browsing.
A connected app, “a service you authorize AI to access, such as email or files”, can help with some tasks. It does not automatically unlock your whole account or computer. Read the requested permissions. At work, organization settings can further restrict access.
How to make a useful request
Describe the result, required information and boundaries. “Handle everything” leaves many decisions unspecified. “Compare three options, include links and stop before buying” provides a result you can check.
- Name the task: research, compare, organize or prepare a registration.
- Provide context: city, deadline, budget, folder or source document.
- Limit access: public pages or one authorized folder, for example.
- Define boundaries: permitted actions and those requiring your approval.
- Ask for verifiable output: sources, created files, questions and unfinished steps.
Try the interactive requests below with fictional information first, adjusting boundaries to what you actually intend to authorize.
What to check before trusting the result
Open research sources and verify prices, times and conditions. For files, check that output was saved and originals remain correct. For registrations, check confirmation in the website or email. “Done” in a conversation should correspond to something you can verify elsewhere.
If a page or document tells the assistant to send your information somewhere else, that instruction is not automatically part of your request. It may be prompt injection, “text that tries to divert AI from the task you authorized”. Stop suspicious activity and restrict access to what is needed. Explore the precautions in Privacy: who can see what I send?.
Start small: research three options on public pages and request a sourced table. Understanding how the assistant works and how to verify its output makes choosing the next task easier.
Before connecting files: read the guide to memory, files and sharing.
Editorial note: fictional teaching stories. Official documentation checked October 2, 2026. Interfaces, names, plans and permissions can change. Examples require enabled features and access allowed by the relevant service.
Your turn: try a prompt
A prompt is “the request you write to AI”. Open an example, copy it and replace the bracketed placeholders. You decide what to authorize in your chosen tool.
Compare three outings
Research three outings in [city] for [date], for [number] people, within a total budget of [amount]. Use public pages. Deliver a table with prices, hours, address, source link and research date. Flag anything unconfirmed. Do not book, register or buy anything.
Check afterward: Fill the placeholders. Verify the chosen venue’s website and availability before deciding.
Prepare a registration for review
At [website], read the instructions for [workshop]. Identify the required fields and, if supported, prepare the form using only information I authorize. Do not invent answers. Stop before submitting, accepting terms or paying. If sign-in is needed, ask me to use the tool’s secure sign-in mechanism; never ask for a password in chat. Show completed fields for review.
Check afterward: Verify the official website. Check each field and take over if the website or tool blocks execution.
Organize a folder copy
Work only in test folder [name], which contains file copies. Create a new folder organized by topic and a summary naming each source document. List possible duplicates for review. Do not delete, move or replace originals. Deliver a list of what you created and any questions.
Check afterward: Authorize only the required folder and review output. These examples do not access your account or execute tasks on this website.
