A SpaceXAI agent that uses Claude to finish part of the job? Elon Musk said on October 7 that Grok Bot should choose the best model for each task, even if it comes from a competitor. He named Anthropic's Claude Opus 5.5, image service Midjourney and music service Suno. The news is an ambition to coordinate those tools inside an agent, rather than the release of another Grok model. [1]

From chat to completed work

Grok Bot arrived in beta in August. You describe a task and it can work on a cloud computer, use authorized apps and websites, and continue after you close your device. It asks for approval at sensitive points. SpaceXAI has expanded access and launched Team Bots, which let a team share instructions, files and connectors. This is a move from a chat that answers questions to an agent that carries out a workflow. [2][3]

Musk's latest statement adds another piece: rather than do everything with one brain, the Bot would choose specialized tools for the job. The enterprise documentation already describes model providers and service-side selection. Musk did not say which tasks would go to Claude, Midjourney or Suno, or when each integration would become available. [1][4]

That matters particularly to businesses. Before connecting email, CRM or internal documents, they need to know what data the agent sends to each provider and which actions require approval. SpaceXAI says its Privacy Mode, when enabled, prevents model providers from retaining data. Each customer should verify the actual setting in their environment and contract. [4]

Why SpaceX is part of the story

In February, SpaceX acquired xAI, bringing the operation behind Grok together with Musk's space and infrastructure businesses. In October, he told Reuters that he intends to change SpaceXAI to SpaceXSI, a reference to superintelligence. No date has been announced, and the official website still uses SpaceXAI. A possible name change does not itself measure what the systems can do. [5][6]

Musk's bet goes beyond the app. According to Barron's, he told an internal meeting SpaceX needed to win in AI because he imagines a future dominated by AI and robotics. Rockets, satellites, data centers, distribution on X and Grok models are part of that vision. There is an intriguing link to a rival: Anthropic contracted compute capacity from SpaceX for Claude. The companies compete for users while doing business with each other. [7][8]

Grok against Claude and GPT

In Artificial Analysis's Intelligence Index, reviewed October 9, Grok 4.7 scored 46, compared with 52 for GPT-6.1 Sol and 58 for Claude Opus 5.5. The measurements use different effort settings and form a composite index, not a percentage of intelligence. Grok is in the contest but trails both in this particular measure. [9][10][11]

It looks stronger on specific work tasks. The same evaluator reported 1,657 Elo for Grok 4.7 on the office-work AA-Briefcase and 56 points for Grok 4.7 with Grok Build on its coding-agent index. API pricing starts at $2 per million input tokens and $6 per million output tokens. The token rate is attractive, but the cost of a finished task also depends on consumption: in Artificial Analysis's tests, Grok 4.7 generated about 81,000 output tokens per task at xhigh effort. [9][12]

The next contest will be between complete agents. Claude Cowork and OpenAI's dots also promise to do work across apps and computers. There is still no independent test with the same tasks and permissions that can declare an overall winner. Musk's idea is compelling because Grok Bot could use rival models when they suit a step better. What remains to be shown is working model routing, its cost and the outcome for the person who delegated the task. [13][14]
