GitHub announced on October 23 a consolidated Teams app combining notifications and Copilot. The legacy app will be renamed GitHub (deprecated) and retired on November 16, 2026.
GitHub notifications users should update their app; legacy app users should install the consolidated one. In the described workflow, an issue notification leads to an @GitHub request, the agent proposes a fix in a pull request, and people review, test and merge it.
What changes for existing users
The update consolidates entry points and sets a migration deadline. Copilot was already present in Teams, as covered in our earlier report on conversation context.
MnzAI Labs' assessment is that connecting notification and action can shorten the gap between noticing a problem and organizing its investigation. A brief conversation can still omit important conditions: where the failure occurs, how to reproduce it and what correct behavior looks like.
Request quality therefore remains part of engineering. A precise issue is still useful when work begins in chat.
What to check before retirement
Our recommendation is to treat migration as a small, verifiable operational change:
- Identify the installed app and its administrator.
- Choose a test task with clear scope and an expected result.
- Check the linked account and repository before requesting changes.
- Verify that the PR traces the request and explains the modifications.
- Confirm that relevant notifications still arrive after the change.
These are editorial validation criteria, not a claim that each item migrates automatically.
Conversation starts the work; the PR makes it assessable
A proposed fix still needs examination against the code and tests. The potential benefit lies in preserving the connection between the problem, attempted solution and acceptance decision.
Opening a PR creates a reviewable proposal, not proof that a bug has been fixed.
Platform owners should identify their current installation and prepare the transition before November 16. Teams should follow a task through final review and assess whether the integration reduces effort while keeping decisions clear.
